Book of the Day

A beautiful story which earned the 1963
Caldcott Medal, awarded annually to the
artist creating the most distinguished
American picture book for children.
Keats evokes the excitement and awe
of a little boy awakening to discover
his neighborhood
in the city is
blanketed under thick, heavy snow.
We promise "delight" in your
forecast when you read it to a child!

What We Can Learn from PreK

Preschool provides children
essential opportunities to grow.

We can see students learn
to listen, manage their emotions,
and follow directions from adults
other than family members.

A child's success later in life can
hinge on important learning
that happens in preschool.

So why not enable an entire
school to nurture the ability
for all kids to develop grit,
and develop strong work habits?

Great Books for the Young Set

"What are some good books to share with
children in Kindergarten or first grade?"

That's an excellent question.
It's important to to offer things that
will interest youth who are developing
listening and reading skills, at a tender age.

  Fortunately the Parkside Media Center
is filled with terrific books and pupils
make regular visits to check-out materials.

Of course teachers have "favorites"
in their own collections as well.  Here
are some titles that will interest children.

"Keep them reading.....you've got this!"

We can all discover additional
suggestions of books at "GoodReads:"

Flubber.....4 Fun!

What is it that’s so magical about flubber?
It’s a liquid and a solid, mold-able, but firm,
gooey and squishy all at the same time!

It’s ideal for table craft. Just throw in
a few cookie cutters, toy dishes or silicone
moulds and the possibilities are endless
.

Nature and Its Wonders

http://www.icanteachmychild.com/2012/02/nature-walks-for-all-ages/

The woods is awakening
snow is slipping away
while branches sway above.
We beg you mother,
share with us again
the magical colors of hope.
Your emerald hues
that beckon the birds and

the violet of leafy-stemmed buds.
Bring us shy daffodils
who share a
beautiful canary song.
These treasured jewels
and each new leaf,
remind us of hidden gifts
this early season has to share.
